About Desert Rose Essential Herbs(DREH)

Years ago I decided as a disable veteran to take control of my health. After over 20 years of working with the military in healthcare I knew that I needed a new approach to taking care of me. I decided to obtain my Masters in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) that is where my journey began. I decided to focus on the medical issues I was experiencing to validate the studies. PTSD, Anxiety, Sleep Disorders, Woman’s Health and ADHD.

There is three things I fell in love with, my studies, herbs and tea. I apply everything I have learned to my everyday practice.

During my studies I learned to:

  • Define the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations of disease and the impact of behavioral factors, life-style choices and environmental factors on the cause and progression of disease.

  • Identify the use of CAM modalities to provide natural support options in these disease conditions and when a client should be referred to their licensed health care provider.

  • Summarize the CAM modalities such as aromatherapy, homeopathy, dynamic phytotherapy, herbal medicine, nutrition and lifestyle changes and how these may be beneficial in supporting health.

  • Analyze and construct a working knowledge of two or more of the modalities and how they can be applied to benefit clients and support optimal health, including appropriate use, contraindications, and expected outcomes.

My role as a Integrative Health Practitioner and Herbalist

What is Integrative Health?

Integrative Health incorporates modern science with holistic health modalities and wellness principles. When used in a clinical setting, it provides a practical, individualized wellness support strategy for optimal health and whole-body health.

The human body has the innate power to heal itself.  Without this power to self-heal, even the most advanced medications and surgical procedures would ultimately fail. The role of the holistic healer in this healing process is to consider the client as a whole person and to consult with the client concerning changes in lifestyle, diet, and supplementation of herbs and/or vitamins to foster an increased state of balance and health, thus maximizing the body's self-healing capabilities.

As a Integrative Health Practitioner I recognize that discomfort or pain are merely symptoms of an imbalance. The imbalance could be a physical issue, the result of abusing the physical body through unhealthy diet, lack of excessive, too little sleep, mental, emotional or spiritual needs not being met.

My approach is to combine numerous complementary and alternative healing    methods together with the latest scientific findings and clinical practices.  Nutrition and herbs are my primary specialty and represent my area of expertise.

The basic principle is to help the body’s natural capacity to restore balance, health, and harmony. Assessments are focused on identifying patterns and imbalances.  Depending on the client’s wishes, recommendations may incorporate complementary and alternative modalities like, acupuncture, yoga, meditation nutrition, herbs, aroma therapy, supplements, counseling,   exercises and lifestyle. Recommendations may be use to instill physical, emotional, mental, and/or spiritual balance.

What is an Herbalist?

Herbalist are people who dedicate their lives to   working with medicinal plants.  The primary focus of an herbalist is to treat people as individuals irrespective of disease or condition they have and stimulate their innate healing power through the use of such interventions as herbs, diet, and lifestyle.

What are Herbal Remedies?

Herbal remedies are the art and science of using herbs for promoting health and preventing illness. It has been the world’s primary form of medicine since the beginning of time.  While the use of herbs in the   United States has been overshadowed by dependence on modern medications the last 100 years, 75% of the world’s population still primarily rely on traditional healing practices most of which is herbal medicine.

Herbal Remedies

Herbal remedies derive from plants and can be in the form of liquid medicine, tea, tablets, capsules, powders, lotions, and creams.  They are selected and combined to meet the individual needs of each patient.  As your herbalist I am well educated in known interactions and will carefully advise on whether these herbs can be combined with those from your doctor.

I am a trained Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioner and not  a licensed or registered healthcare provider. I cannot diagnose health conditions, nor prescribe medicines legally; however, I will recommend or suggest medicinal herbs and modalities for various health complaints, as I believe in the safety and efficacy of botanical medicine and alternative modalities.
